William T. Burleigh, 94, of Plattsburgh, passed away at the UVM Health Network, CVPH on October 8, 2019.William was born in Pasadena, CA. April 26, 1925, son of Capt. Andrew L. Burleigh USN and Marion Meader.
William was pre-deceased by his wife of 56 years, Esther Parrotte in 2011. William is survived by his two sons and two daughters, David & Carol (Dominy), Judy & Donald Cosgro, of Plattsburgh, Cindy and Gary Archanbeault of Pilot Point, TX and Michael of Ticonderoga, and his sister. Claire Stapleton of Whiting, NJ, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As a youth, William enjoyed seeing the world, at various naval stations where his father was stationed, including China, the Philippines, and Panama Canal Zone.
William enlisted in the Navy in 1944, serving as a signalman on the USS SANCTUARY Hospital Ship. The ship and crewmembers assisted in evacuating former POW’s from Nagasaki, Japan. After an honorable discharge, he entered New York University, earning a degree in Accounting. He returned home to Plattsburgh and worked in various local firms as an accountant and controller.
The family would like to extend our thanks to the hospital staff on the 4th and 5th floor for the great care they provided.
At William request there are no calling hours. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 12, at St. John the Baptist Church, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private at the family plot at Mt. Carmel Cemetery at a later date.
