Theron (Ted) Milton Sworts, 83, of Plattsburgh, formally of Middleport, NY, passed away Saturday, May 25th at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility on Prospect Street in Plattsburgh. Ted was born to Gladys and Milton Sworts on February 19, 1930 in Ellicottville, NY. Ted was a graduate of West Valley Central School Class of 1949, he was an Operating Engineer and member of local 463 International Union of Operating Engineers. Ted enjoyed his little farm where he raised registered polled Hereford cattle and registered Hampshire and Tunis sheep. He was an active volunteer with the Niagara Count y 4H Animal Science Program. He also served as the county rocket leader for several years. Ted was a past member of the once great organization of Junior Chamber of Commerce and served as their Christmas tree sales Chairman which he enjoyed very much. Ted also served as a Girl Scout helper in the 1970’s – He was a tireless worker for the area food pantry. He was currently a member of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Plattsburgh, NY. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Trudy Sworts of Plattsburgh; daughter, Sandra and son-in-law James Gardner; daughter Roselee Bielec; daughter Tonya Todd; grandsons John Jr. and Joshua Bielec, Dylan , Benjamin, and Hunter Gardner. Ted had two great grandchildren, Cayden and Lilyanna Rose. He is survived by a sister, Joyce Stribe of Saganaugh, Michigan. A sister-in-law, Mary Lou Sworts of Delevan, NY. And many nephews and nieces; a brother Vernon Sworts predeceased him on March 31st, 2013. A Memorial service will be held at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 10 Adirondack Lane in Plattsburgh on June 1st at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Kathy Mc Cleary a dear friend officiating. On June 8th, at 6:00 p.m., there will be a service held in Ted’s memory at Zion Lutheran Church of Gasport with Pastor Rodney Klinzing officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend either service. The Sworts family would like to express their appreciation to the Hospice people for their help and concern and to all the workers at Meadowbrook Nursing Home who cared so lovingly for Ted in his final days.
