Susan J. McAuliffe
On October 11th, 2022 Susan J. McAuliffe passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of sixty nine. She is survived by her children, Ryan and Kiera, her daughter-in-law Jessica, her beloved grandchildren Eva and James, countless family and friends, as well as friends that became family.
Susan dedicated her life to helping others through her work as a nurse, a live-in caregiver, and a second “mom” to many. She extended a warm home, a hot meal, or a shoulder to lean on to anyone in need. Susan’s love was most felt around the dinner table. Her spaghetti and meatballs were famous, her goulash renowned, and her mastery of her grandmother’s donut recipe left the children in awe. Most importantly, every meal brought her loved ones together.
Susan’s love of her family and friends was almost matched by her love of The Adirondacks and its way of life. Having been raised in Highland Mills, NY, it was in Elizabethtown, the heart of the Adirondacks, where she chose to raise her children and share with them the fondness and joy she experienced over so many childhood summers in the mountains, on Lake Champlain, or at Lincoln Pond.
Her sharp wit, irreverent sense of humor, and ability to love fiercely will be sorely missed, but will live on in the hearts of all those that loved her. An informal celebration of Life in her honor will be held October 22, 2022 from 12-3pm at The Deer’s Head Inn in Elizabethtown, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Adirondack Council or any other organization dedicated to preserving the home that she loved so dearly.
