Stephen F. Duso, 60, of US Route 9 in Lewis passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday August 30, 2017 at Elizabethtown Community Hospital. He was born in Elizabethtown on July 31, 1957, son of the late Harold and Erika (Ransom) Duso.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda (Dougal) of 35 years, three sons, Stephen Jr (Elissa), Richard (Kimber), and William, and his beloved Bloodhound “Duchess.” He is also survived by his sister Sharon Rivers, brother’s Bernard (Linda), and Thomas (Alma). He also is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. His grandchildren Calen, Anna, Keenan, and Scotty were the joy of his life.
Steve graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1976.
Steve was employed as a Senior Court Officer for the State of New York Court System for 16 years. He was a former Essex County Sheriff’s Deputy of 16 years. Prior to that he was a Class B Machinist at Richter Cine Equipment; worked at DIPAK and the town of Elizabethtown. He absolutely loved greeting people and putting a smile on their face.
Steve was a Lifetime active member of the Elizabethtown Fire Department. He spent a number of years instructing fire service classes. He also was a former member of the Elizabethtown Lewis Emergency Squad. Steve enjoyed his time with his grandchildren; feeding them ice cream and Oreos. He was always willing to help anyone with a project. He loved his winter months and never complained about how cold it was. Steve was quick witted and always found a way to put a smile on your face. He will be truly missed by all.

Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Friday September 1, 2017 at Heald Funeral Home, 7521 Court Street, Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday September 2, 2017 at United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown. Burial will follow in Black River Cemetery in Westport. A gathering will take place following the burial, at the Elizabethtown Fire Department.
