Shirley Ann Stetz

Shirley Ann Stetz, 84, of Bailey Ave, Plattsburgh, NY died Monday, October 2, 2017, at her home with her family by her side. Born Feb. 15, 1933 in Plattsburgh, NY., daughter of the late LeRoy and Avis (Gauthier) Schneider. Shirley graduated from Plattsburgh High School, class of 1950. She married Andrew(Bill) Stetz on June 1, 1955 at St. Peter’s Church by Father Lemieux. Attendants were Verna Roberts and James Brown.
Shirley worked for Bell Telephone Co., Anderson’s Insurance Agency & later years, owned & operated Stetz’s Greenhouse. She loved traveling in their RV thru all of the United States & Canada. The highlight being two trips to Alaska to visit family. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #1619 West Plattsburgh; Rosary Altar Society & Prayer Shawl Ministry of St. Peter’s Parish.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband Bill of 62 years; two sons- Stephen and (Anna) of Dannemora; Matthew and (Dawn) of Plattsburgh & one daughter- Christina & (Earl Miner) of Saranac. Her beloved six grandchildren: Jason & (Kathy) Stetz of Fairfax, VT; Erica & (Jason) Bogett of AuSable Forks; Nicole & Hope Stetz of Dannemora; and Katelyn & Michael Stetz of Plattsburgh. And two great-granddaughters: Johanna & Ruby.
One brother-in-law: George & (Sandy) Stetz of Maiden, NC. Several nieces & nephews and a special niece: Janis Hoy of Cumberland Head. Shirley is predeceased by son Michael Stetz and twin brothers Milton & Morton, who died at birth. Also sisters-in-law: Helen Dadouses; Jeanette Stokes; Gloria LaVigne & Brenda Stetz.
Shirley has requested her body be donated to the University of Vermont College of Medicine for the advancement of medical research. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Thursday October 12, 2017 at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh.
