Shannon Clay

March 23, 1982 — January 20, 2025

Shannon Elizabeth Clay, 42, of Canandaigua, NY, passed away at home on January 20, 2025. She was born March 23, 1982, in Plattsburgh, NY, to William and Bernice Clay. Shannon was the seventh of eight children, born 10 minutes after her twin sister, Mandy. Known for her fiery spirit and a willingness to always help people and animals in difficult situations, Shannon touched the lives of many different people around her. She was someone who people always remembered, and she made an outsized impact in the lives of the people she loved. Shannon always accepted people as they were and never judged their life circumstances. She was an animal lover and saved multiple dogs who were living on short chains and ensured each of them had a loving home to live out their days.

Shannon found her life partner in her wife, Robin, and together they lived a good and happy life. Shannon was a lifelong resident of Clinton County but was residing with her family in Canandaigua at the time of her death. She is preceded in death by her sister, Jaime Clay, who passed in 1995.

She is survived by her loving and attentive wife, Robin, and her son, Norman; her parents, William and Bernice Clay; her sister, Cori Giguere; her brother, Fred Giguere and his partner, Tracy; her sister, Amy Marshall; her sister Keri Sprenger and her spouse, Tracy; her sister, Mandy Clay, and her brother Bill Clay and his spouse, Tiffany; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A small service will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Shannon's name to Elmore SPCA.

Arrangements were entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

A Note from Shannon's Wife Robin:

To my dear Shannon:

When people saw Shannon, the first thing that they noticed was her bright blue eyes. They were as bright as the sky and deep as the sea. People instantly were drawn to her personality as she was a kind woman with a bright personality. Her soul was as beautiful as a rose. She was the kindest person that I've ever met.

I am lucky and blessed to have Shannon in my life. People who knew her were also lucky to have been blessed with her presence. Everywhere she went people were interested in getting to know her. She loved animals and enjoyed saving animals that needed care. She would bring home bunnies and puppies to make sure that they would be healthy. She was happy. Her smile would brighten up the whole room. She was one of those people that when she walked into the room everybody noticed her. She never judged people. She saw them for who they were not what they had. Her wife and son Norman were part of her dream come true. She was loved unconditionally by her family and are so proud that she had grown and changed her life for the better. She had cared for her family and took excellent care of her wife as they fought the great fight of cancer together. Because of Shannon's positive and loving way she was able to have a life that was happy, joyous and free. She suddenly passed away after having many struggles with seizures and was recently hospitalized for these issues. May God fly high with this angel and keep this angel close as she is close to her wife's heart. Her loved ones were shocked by her sudden passing. She had lived her dream life with her wife Robin, having her fairy tale, her happily ever after.

With all my love,

Your wife, Robin
