Ross Atkinson

Ross (Red) Atkinson, of Standish Rd., Saranac, NY passed away Saturday December 22, 2012, at Meadowbrook Healthcare. The son of Edgar and Ora (Williamson) Atkinson was born on July 28, 1924 in Altona, NY. Ross joined the U.S. Army in WWll and served with the Military Police in Manila in the Phillipines. He is a Life Member of the American Legion Post 1618 in Saranac. After he was honorably discharged from the service, he worked at Republic Steel in Lyon Mountain and he did construction at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base and the missle bases. He worked the rest of his life on his own land as a logger. He owned a sawmill , a grocery store and campsites. He is survived by his son, Fred Atkinson Sr. and Marian of Saranac. His daughter, Sandra and Mike Jones of Hopewell, Va. Two grandsons, Fred and Fran Atkinson of Plattsburgh and Dr. Thomas Atkinson of New York City. One Granddaughter, Amy and Chad Jarvis of Hopewell, Virginia, 4 great-grandchildren, Grayson, Gillian, Gavin and Garrett Jarvis, several nieces , nephews, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws. He is predeceased by his wife, Marion (Begor) Atkinson, his parents Edgar and Ora, his brothers, Roy, Ray, Donald, and Ronald. His sisters, Fern, Loretta, Hilda, Emily and Marjorie. At the request of Ross, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Heald Funeral Home,48 Court Street Plattsburgh.
