Robert Whittemore

Robert Sidney Whittemore, 86, (known to many as Sonny), of Lewis, NY, passed away peacefully at the Elderwood Nursing Home in Lake, Placid, NY, on Friday, November 29, 2024.

Preceded in death, by his dear wife, Barbara of 65 years. She was the love of his life. Siblings who passed before him are his brother, Edwin, and sisters, Terry and Shirley.

Loved ones that cherish and miss Robert until they meet again are his son, Jeffrey Robert Whittemore of Rouses Point, NY, (Penny); daughter Debra Jane Whittemore Rauch, son-in-law Barry Rauch of Keeseville, NY; grandson Matthew J. Rauch, wife Becky Edwards Rauch of Tuscon, AZ; granddaughter Claire A. Rauch, Plattsburgh, NY; and Maghan Nichols, Lewis, NY, and Ben Nichols, Lewis, NY, and nieces and nephews. Sisters, Jean Smith; Sandra (John) Pulsifer, Judy (Alvin) Gates; Betty (Ivos) Calkins, and Marcy (Tom) Howard.

Robert was a lifelong resident of Lewis, New York. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He worked for 38 years for Valley Vending. He was a hard worker, loved his job, and was very proud to retire! He loved to hunt and go for walks. He was an avid NASCAR fan, with Bill Elliott being his favorite driver. He attended many NASCAR races and enjoyed watching races on television. Robert loved to take his wife Barbara for car rides in his 1991 convertible Mustang GT with the top down.

Arrangements have been made by the Heidrick Funeral Home, in Elizabethtown, NY. There will be no calling hours. There will be a private family graveside service at the Lewis Cemetery, in Lewis, NY.

Donations in Robert's memory may be made to the First Congregation Church, Lewis, NY, or the Elizabethtown-Lewis Emergency Squad.
