Robert Charles "Chris" Christenen

November 22, 1928 — September 3, 2018

Robert Charles (“Chris”) Christensen, age 89, died after a lengthy illness. Born on November 22, 1928, in Hartford City, Indiana to the late Rev. Alfred N. and Ethel P. (Ellickson) Christensen.
He graduated from Altona High School and served in the Army. In 1953, he became a Corrections Officer at Dannemora until his retirement in 1978. He was also the owner of Christensen Plumbing and Heating in West Chazy. He built 40+ houses and installed hundreds of furnaces throughout the North Country during his career. He was the Grand Exalted Ruler for the Plattsburgh Elks Lodge and the Governor of the Plattsburgh Moose Lodge. With Bob’s sense of humor, his caregivers at Meadowbrook seldom left his room without a smile.
He is survived by his former spouse, Beverly (Payne), his son, Stephen (Sally), of Rochester, NY and his daughter, Sherry Christensen, of Salt Lake City, UT. He is also survived by two brothers, Alfred Thomas (late Nancy) of Manassas, VA and Lyle E. (Karen) Christensen of Powhatan, VA and a sister, Belle Marie (Robert) Woodward of Boise, ID., his four grandsons, Matt (Ortal), Robb (Kate), and Scott (Jen) Christensen, and Adam Wilkins and one granddaughter, Nikki Wilkins (Brian) Julkunen as well as seven great-grandkids.
He was predeceased by his partner, the late Beatrice Herdman, two sisters, Betty Ruth (“BR”) (late Conard) Stairs of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, and Margaret (“Peg”) (late Lindon) Payne of Mooers, NY.
The family wishes to thank both the Meadowbrook staff and the CVPH ICU and 5th Floor staff for their excellent care of Bob.
The family will hold a private celebration of Bob’s life at their convenience.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Heald Funeral Home, 48 Court Street, Plattsburgh.
