Richard Medary Sherman, a beloved husband, father, and pillar of the community of Westport, NY passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024. He was born on January 30, 1934, in Elizabethtown, NY, was the firstborn son of Richard Sherman, Sr. and Patti Medary Sherman.

Richard's commitment to hard work and family values shone through in all aspects of his life. From a young age, he demonstrated his work ethic by starting to farm while still in high school. On September 15, 1956, Richard embarked on a lifelong partnership with his beloved spouse, Juliann. Together, they nurtured a family and worked tirelessly on the family farm, tending to dairy cattle and trefoil seed crops. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Bessboro Builders, a successful construction business and hardware store, alongside his brother-in-law and sons.

Richard's involvement in numerous organizations reflected his commitment to his community. He served on the Westport school board, played an active role in cooperative extension programs, and sat on the boards of various agricultural cooperatives. His dedication extended to his faith, as he served on the Vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church in Essex and the Church of the Good Shepherd in Elizabethtown.

Whether overseeing his vegetable garden, nurturing fruit trees, or tending to the lush greenery at the Bessboro greenhouse, Richard's love for nature was evident in all he did. His impeccable lawn was a testament to his meticulous care and attention to detail.

He was predeceased by his parents; and sisters Patti Mallia and Anne Moisan.
