We are deeply saddened by the passing of Richard Neal Galeski on Monday, July 31st, 2023. Dick was born on November 16, 1945 and grew up in Port Huron, Michigan. A jack-of-all trades and a master of all games, this talented Adirondack artist left his mark in Keene Valley, NY, where he lived with his wife of 38 years, Joan Areta Galeski. He was quickly adopted by Joan’s large family in Keene Valley, and was often referred to as “Uncle Dick”. Many remember Dick flying his remote control airplanes at the Marcy Field Airport, his beautiful oil paintings, his star gazing hobby, his competitive trading skills, his masterful carpentry work, and his some-what dark sense of humor. As the only father I have ever known, “Diddy”, your presence will be greatly missed but your memory will flourish through all of those, you have so uniquely touched.
Dick is survived by: his companion and best friend, Gayle Maicus; his sons, Jimmy Galeski and David Galeski; Joan’s children; Bruce Hebert, Michelle Hebert-Otis and Colette Hebert-Mitchell; dozens of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, including Nathan Hebert, Kayla Hebert, “Little” Marty Hebert, Joshua Otis, Trisha (Otis) Gaddie, and Jessica (Abbott) Lincoln. He was predeceased by: his Mother and Father, Lois and Edward Galeski; his brother, Bob Galeski; Joan (Hudson) Galeski, Marty and Victor Hebert, and his infant son, Richard Neal Galeski, Jr.
A private gathering for family and close friends only, will be held at his daughter and son-in law, Colette Hebert and Brian Mitchell’s home at 1221 Bonieview Rd., Wilmington, NY on August 5th. Feel free to stop by anytime from 1 – 5 PM or until Elvis has left the building.
