Noda M. Howard, 90, of County Route 12 in Bouquet, passed away Friday October 7, 2016 at her daughters home in Lewis. She was born in Essex on August 31, 1926 daughter of the late Edmund and Stella Christian.
Noda initially started her career at the old County home in Whallonsburg. She then worked as a private aid for Mrs. Dorothy Sayre and Mrs. Parker in Wadhams before being hired at the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown. Noda worked at the Horace Nye Home for over 30 years before she retired. She was a member of the Adirondack Draft Horse Association with her late husband Gilbert. Noda had a passion for gardening, pickling, berries, canning, and spoiling her grand children and great grandchildren. She had a sewing hobby at the Essex County Fairgrounds. Her family is left with fond memories of Sunday afternoon dinners at her house.
Noda is survived by her children; Dorena and her husband Robert Sayward of Willsboro, Stella and Vern Bashaw of Lewis, George and Zoa Howard of Peru, Geraldine Denton of New Russia, Kenneth and Darlene Howard of Elizabethtown, her siblings; Daniel Christian of Lewis, Cordelia and Conrad Gangone of Elizabethtown, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 28 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Gilbert Howard, Sr., a son Gilbert Howard, Jr., siblings; Arnold Christian, Benjamin Christian, Donald Christian, Dorothy Haynes, Edna Stoker, Rowena Haynes, and one grandson Arnold Clark.
Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday October 10, 2016 at Heald Funeral Home, 7521 Court Street, Elizabethtown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday October 11, 2016 at St. Philip of Jesus Church in Willsboro. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Willsboro.
