Maurice Garand, age 92, a longtime Westport, New York resident, passed away on March 23, 2023.
Maurice was the son of the late Norman and Katherine (Ahrant) Garand. He was also predeceased by the love of his life, wife, Grace Garand, a brother Douglas Garand, a brother Norman Garand Jr., and a sister, Geraldine Clark.
Maurice was born November 1, 1930, in Willsboro, New York. He served his county in the United States Army in the later years of World War II as part of the Army of Occupation in Germany. Maurice made life long friends in the army.
Upon returning home, he worked many jobs and with his father, together they built their home on Sisco Street in Westport. He resided here for the remainder of his life.
Maurice was employed at Georgia Pacific and retired from there in 1994. He and Grace loved to travel and made many trips to the Western states of the US.
At the time of Grace’s passing in 2001, he kept a promise to her that he would look after her sister, Helen. Until the time of her passing in 2009, his care and dedication to Helen will be forever held in the hearts of her family.
His family would like to thank those neighbors who helped him through these last years, especially Jack and Judy Knapper. Along with Jack, a thank you also to postman, Rick Maye for going well above the call of duty.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 Saturday April 15, 2023 at Memorial Cemetery in Willsboro.
