Matthew Dumas

October 9, 1963 — December 7, 2024

Matthew Leonard Dumas, a beloved husband, father, son, and friend, left this world peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 61. Born on October 9, 1963, in Cortland, NY, to Alden and Pauline Dumas, Matthew found his way to the serene beauty of Keene, where he embraced life to the fullest.

Matthew was a devoted carpenter, something he deeply cherished. He was not merely a craftsman; he was an artist with wood, often engaging in woodworking and rehabilitating old furniture with a passion that highlighted his reverence for history and craftsmanship.

An avid outdoorsman, Matthew's spirit thrived in nature. He was an enthusiastic hunter and held the record for being the youngest 46er, achieving this remarkable milestone at the age of eight. His love for hiking led him to explore the vast wilderness, and his hunting camp became a second home filled with laughter and camaraderie. Matthew also enjoyed canoeing with his beloved wife, Barbara, creating memories on tranquil waters.

Preceding him in death were his father Alden Dumas, and his brother Jay Dumas.

Family was the cornerstone of Matthew's life. He is survived by his devoted spouse, Barbara Dumas; his children Alexandra (Amador) and Brandon Dumas (Bailey Van Ness); brother Andrew (Michelle) Dumas; cousin Raymond (Rosemary) Dumas; his mother Pauline Dumas; and cherished nieces Alexa Dumas and Kara Dumas; as well as his lifelong classmates from Keene Central School who were a profound source of joy.

In addition to his many passions, Matthew had a profound interest in genealogy, weaving together the threads of his family's history. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed baseball, often sharing his enthusiasm with his family. Matthew's passion for life, his compassionate nature, and his ability to bring people together will be deeply missed.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services.

Arrangements were entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, PO Box 188, Elizabethtown, NY 12932.
