Marylynn Baker Burres died peacefully on Monday June 13, 2022 at age 100. She was born at Stony Sides, in Westport, to Raymond and Ruth (Sheldon) Baker on April 16, 1922. Marylynn loved the North Country, and lived her entire life in Essex County. She graduated from Elizabethtown/Lewis Central School in 1940. After high school, Marylynn worked at various jobs before starting her career with the State of New York Motor Vehicle Department in Elizabethtown. She met almost every resident of Essex County during her 19 years of service there, and called each and every one of them her friend. She was very proud of her special EX-67 license tag and retained it for many years. After her retirement, Marylynn kept busy with her favorite pastimes – watching NASCAR and the Yankees on TV, observing the birds and squirrels from her favorite picture window, reading, and writing amazing letters to friends and family. She often had a jigsaw puzzle in the works, and encouraged all visitors to help her find those pesky missing pieces. She was a long-time member of the Westport Federated Church, and helped with the potluck suppers there for many years.
Above all, Marylynn loved her family and devoted herself to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Mel Burres (Cathy) of Birmingham AL, Linda Schaffer of Schenectady NY, Jeff Burres of New Russia NY, Bill Sears of Westport NY, and Rev Cathe Evins (Jerry) of Seguin Texas; her grandchildren: Susan Burres, Jim Burres, and their mother Mary Ruth Burres, Shari Richards-Enos, Scott Schaffer, Julius Burres, Arwen Mitchell, Chinae Alexander, Kelsey Sears, Delaney Needham, and Kaiden Sears; her great grandchildren: Julius, Leigh, Caleb, Braxton, Morgan and Lucian. In addition, Marylynn will be fondly remembered by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur S. Baker, and her daughter-in-law Betsy Burres.
The family also wishes to thank the staff of Elderwood at Ticonderoga for their loving care and concern.
