With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Marlene Marie Westover, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Westport community. Marlene was born on July 28, 1952, in Elizabethtown, NY, to Clifton and Alice LaRock.
Marlene retired from Egglefield Ford in September 2015. She could be found in the "middle office" taking care of business and answering phones, always with a smile on her face.
Marlene was an integral part of the Westport Emergency Squad for 40 years, 35 of which she served as treasurer. She was also an EMT for several years. Her selfless service left a lasting impact on the community.
Marlene found joy in going for rides - always wanting to look for deer, engaging in conversations with people from all walks of life, and sharing in their stories, trying her luck at the slots and visiting Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, as well as indulging in lottery scratch off tickets. That was evident by the pile of scratch off tickets that could always be found on the dining room table. Although all the above were joyful for her, her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Marlene is survived by her loving husband, James Westover; her children Nicole (Benjamin) Sudduth and Brian (Christine) Westover; her mother, Alice LaRock; her grandchildren Mallory (Dmitry) Ermakov, Megan Sudduth (Fiancé, Zackary Miller), Ian Westover (Karah Curran), and Alexandria Westover (Tyler Todd); her great-grandchild, Hazel Ermakov; her sister Catherine (William) McMahon; her brother Donald (Jodi) LaRock: her brothers in-law David Westover; Douglas (Gwen) Westover, Dennie Westover; and her sister in-law Jana (Terry) Atwell.
She is preceded in death by her father and her parents-in-law, James and Regina Westover.
Marlene's positive attitude and spirit touched the lives of all who knew her, even during challenging times, and will forever be remembered for her kindness, and compassion. Her passion for life was evident in her willingness to spread joy and bring light wherever she went. Marlene's memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
The family would like to thank the Dialysis Unit at Elizabethtown Community Hospital, and the nurses and staff at Elizabethtown Community Hospital Emergency Room. A very special thank you to nurses Frank, Dusty, and Becky, who always took great care of her and treated her with dignity.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Marlene's life will be on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Westport. Visitation will precede the service at the church starting at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery following Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask donations be made to the Westport Emergency Squad.
Services were entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, 7521 Court St., Elizabethtown, NY 12932.
