Marion B. Norton, 83, passed away on June 12, 2019, in Plattsburgh, NY. She was born in Wadhams, NY, on June 4, 1936 to Ann Hyland Johnson but was raised in her beloved Elizabethtown, NY, by her mother and step-father, Harry P. Johnson.
After graduating from Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School in 1953, she married Lee P Norton in 1954. They moved to Chelsea, MA, while Lee was in the Navy, later returning to Elizabethtown to raise their three children. Marion had a deep interest in the history of Elizabethtown and was a fountain of information with regards to the first settlers and their descendants in and around Elizabethtown. She acquired an impressive collection of old postcards throughout the years, focusing particularly on the local areas. She appreciated antiques and she and Lee were regulars at local auctions. Marion had a passion for genealogy and spent endless hours researching and documenting family ancestry. She enjoyed music and sang in a local chorus in her younger years. She and Lee loved The Lamplighters, a local band, and were known to take a few spins on the dance floor while they performed. Marion treasured her friends from Elizabethtown and often spoke of the fun they shared throughout the years.
She is survived by her three children: Barry Norton (Joey) of Plattsburgh, NY, Paul Norton (Laurie) of North Reading, MA, and Jody Norton (Lesley) of Fort Wayne, IN, along with her beloved grandchildren Matthew Norton (Erika) of New York City, Jeffrey Norton of Plattsburgh, NY, Nathan Norton of North Reading, MA, and her great-granddaughter Vivien of New York City, who lovingly referred to Marion as GG (Great Grandma). Marion was predeceased by her husband, Lee as well as Ann and Harry Johnson.
