Lyn Ross Lobdell

November 29, 1942 — March 2, 2016

Lyn Ross Lobdell, age 73, of Westport, New York, and The Villages, Florida, passed away on March 2, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. Lyn was born in Elizabethtown, New York, on November 29, 1942, to Keeton B. and Lillian Sayre Lobdell.
Lyn graduated from Westport Central School in 1961, attended Cornell University and was a Viet Nam veteran, having served in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967. He joined the New York State Police in 1967 and retired in 1998 as Technical Sergeant in charge of the Troop “B” Communications Section.
Lyn was a member of 4-H, and served on the Essex County Fair Board for over 40 years, as secretary/treasurer for most of that time. He also served at secretary/treasurer of the Adirondack Chapter of the Association of Former New York State Troopers and the Retired Police and Fireman’s Club of the Villages. He was a member of the Florida Association of Retired Troopers/NY. Lyn sponsored and served as Webmaster of most of these clubs. He also helped organize several class reunions and maintained an alumni list. He was of the Protestant faith.
As a young man, Lyn joined Wadhams Grange and later Whallonsburg and Westville Granges, as well as Essex and Franklin County Pomona Granges, New York State and National Granges. He served in several capacities, was an officer of the New York State Grange and on the State Grange Museum Board. He was also a member of the Westport Chamber of Commerce.
Lyn enjoyed traveling, having visited all 50 states, attending numerous state fairs, attending every county fair in New York State within two years, watching NASCAR races and playing dominoes.
Survivors include his long-time fiancé, Rosanna Clark of Westville, New York; mother Lillian Lobdell; son Keith; daughter-in-law Jill (Edde); grandchildren Malynda, Lawrence and Ella Lobdell, all of Westport, New York. Lyn is also survived by Rosanna’s sons and daughters-in law: Tony and Patty Clark of Malone, New York; Allan and Michelle Clark of Fort Covington, New York; grandchildren Jamie, Corey and Cheyenne Clark; four great grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, Keeton, in 1998.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Sunday march 6, 2016 at Marvin-Heald Funeral Home, 7521 Court Street, Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday March 7, 2016 at the Westport Federated Church in Westport. Burial will be at a later date in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Westville.
