Lyle W. Berg, aged 73, passed away on Tuesday, November 19th, in his hometown of Cadyville, N.Y. He was born in Gowanda, NY to the late Catherine “Clare” Parkinson and Leland C. Berg on March 14th, 1946.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert C. Berg. He leaves his grieving son, Dale Berg of FL, and daughter Margaret (Peggy) Berg of FL. He also leaves 3 grandchildren: Dustin and Deidre Greene, from FL and Alexandra (Lexi) Berg of FL.: his brother and sister in law, Keith and Tammy Berg of Beekmantown, NY.
Lyle graduated from Saranac High School in 1964, with awards for his championship wrestling. While living in Syracuse NY, and working at General Electric, he met and married Helen Pattison. Lyle returned to Cadyville in the early 1970’s; graduated from Clinton Community College with an Assoc. Degree in 1975. That same year he joined the Cadyville Fire Department, where he held many ranks/offices, being President and Fire Police Captain at the time of his passing. Lyle was an active member of the Clinton County Firefighters Association as well as the Clinton County Fire Police Association. Lyle was also an avid racing fan and often drove three or more hours just to attend a race. As well, he loved to play cards, Dominoes and Poker with family and friends.
He worked as a 911 Dispatcher in the Clinton County Dispatch Center in Plattsburgh retiring as his health declined. Lyle loved, lived and breathed the Cadyville Fire Department. It led him to 44 years of service, earning many awards and recognition. In August of 2019, he was visited by members of multiple Fire Departments, The Guardian of Ribbons, Red Knights, as well as Cadyville Fire Department. Lyle will be missed by all those who loved and respected his dedication to serving his community. His family will continue to mourn his passing after his long battle with Cancer. It should be noted that Lyle was under Hospice care in the latter stages of his cancer fight. Without the help of Hospice, Lyle would not have been able to live out his wish to remain in his own home. The family extends all of their appreciation to those wonderful Hospice staff who assisted Lyle, right to his very last breath.
Calling hours will be held at the Heald Funeral Home, 48 Court St in Plattsburgh on Friday the 29th of November from 3:00PM to 6:00PM. A Fireman's service will be conducted at 5:30 PM where Lyle will receive "LastCall". Immediately following, a celebration of Lyle's life will be held at the St. James Church Hall in Cadyville.
Lyle requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Cadyville Volunteer Fire Department in his name.
