Lee Palmer Norton, 81, of County Route 8, Elizabethtown, N.Y., passed away peacefully at UVM Health Network CVPH in Plattsburgh on May 30, 2016. Lee was the son of Carolyn P. and Lee M. Norton.
Lee graduated from Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School in 1952 and shortly thereafter entered the United States Navy where he spent 3 years serving his country. He returned to Elizabethtown in 1955, where he joined his father in the insurance business. Lee was proud of the continuing education he pursued, and he achieved numerous professional designations.
Lee belonged to many service organization including Kiwanis, Elks, and the Masonic Lodge, and he spent several years as a volunteer fireman in Elizabethtown. For a few years he was the proud co-owner of a small recreational plane which he flew throughout the North Country and even into Canada and Vermont. He loved his years hunting with friends and family on his beloved property in Lewis. He had a deep passion for the well being of his community, always voicing his opinions on various issues in Elizabethtown.
Lee is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marion Bull Norton; and their three children, Barry L. and Joanne D. Norton of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Paul R. and Laurie A. Norton of North Reading, Mass., and Jody A. Norton of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and his grandchildren, Matthew J. Norton and his wife Erika Billick of New York City, Jeffrey L. Norton of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Nathan Norton of North Reading, Mass.
Lee was predeceased by his sole sibling, Janice N. Mackenzie of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; and his parents, Lee and Carolyn Norton of Elizabethtown, N.Y.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the United Church of Christ located on 7580 Court Street in Elizabethtown, N.Y. followed by a memorial service at the United Church of Christ at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery immediately following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Elizabethtown Fire Department in Elizabethtown, N.Y.
