It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Leamon W. Smith on June 9, 2023.
Leamon, age 58, was born to parents Leamon A. Smith & Louise Tromblee Smith on October 1, 1964. He lived his entire life in Lewis, NY.
Until age 21, Leamon attended the Special Education Program at BOCES Mineville. Later he attended Mountain Lake Services day programs. After the passing of his parents, the family home was donated to Mountain Lake Services to honor Leamon’s wish to remain there. He presently resided at Trout Pond IRA in Lewis, NY. Deep gratitude to the MLS family for the support & friendships over the years.
Leamon is survived by his sister & advocate Lanita S. Canavan (Daniel) of Lewis NY, brother Lance D. Smith, also of Lewis; nieces Lynette McCray of Lewis and Jessica (Jesse) Pound of Queensbury, NY and Shannon Canavan of Lewis; nephew Jonathan McCray (Caitie) of Allen, TX. Leamon was great uncle to 3 great nieces and 3 great nephews: Matthew, Oliver, McKenna, Emma, Emelia, and Connor. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Leamon, also known as the unofficial mayor of Lewis, loved his family & friends. Favorite activities & interests include enjoying the outdoors (especially fishing), “cutting down trees”, listening to country music & WOKO, anything with wheels, camouflage and a cold rum & coke. Leamon was an Honorary Member of the Lewis Fire Department, where he enjoyed the Ox Roast and selling tickets.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm-3pm on Thursday 6/15/2023 at Heald Funeral Home located at 7521 Court St. Elizabethtown, NY 12932. Service at 3pm. Feel free to wear your favorite T-shirt and jeans! Leamon would love that!
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lewis Volunteer Fire Department, POB 23 Lewis, NY 12950
In Leamon’s honor, spend some time outdoors. He will be missed by many.
