Lawrence “Larry” Rowell passed away at the CVPH Medical Center December 15, 2015. He was born in Dover, FL on November 28, 1926, the son of Harrison and Georgia (Cook) Rowell.
Soon after, his family moved to Conway, SC where he lived until he joined the US Army. He was stationed in Germany and served in the Constabulary during WWII, receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. He met the love of his life, Marie (McDonald), when they were both in Washington, DC. They were married in St. Bernard’s Church in Lyon Mt. on August 25, 1951. Larry was employed as a civilian by the Air Base as an Electrical Foreman. In 1966, he went to work for Georgia Pacific, also as an Electrical Foreman, until his “first” retirement in 1988. He then continued to work fulltime for Meron’s Construction until the age of 82. In addition to having a lengthy career, Larry enjoyed his family, gardening, amateur radio, genealogy and playing practical jokes on people. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is predeceased by his parents, two sisters and their spouses: Zillah (Clarence) Alford and Alifaire (T.J.) Green and a brother-in-law: Bernard Facteau. He is survived by: his wife, Marie; his children with their spouses and children, Joseph (Beverly) Rowell – Billie and Joe; Anna (John) Shearer – Sarah and Adam; and Christopher (Michelle) Rowell – Christopher and Gabrielle; a sister-in-law, Bertha Facteau; and numerous half siblings, step siblings, nieces and nephews.
At Larry’s request, there will be no calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
