Marsh, Katherine S. “Kay”

Of Keene Valley, NY passed away at age 89 on December 1, 2014, after a long struggle to recover from fractures in her hip and neck as the result of a fall in her home in November 2013. Kay was born on May 22, 1925 in Philadelphia, PA to Allen A. and Katherine S. Johnson, and she grew up in Fairfield, CT. Following graduation from Roger Ludlow High School, she attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, graduating in 1947 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Soon after graduation she married Robert “Bob” L. Boyle and had five children. Her love of science prompted her to pursue an Associate Degree in Lab Technology in the late 1960's. In 1975, she received her Master of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Bridgeport, which led her to teaching science at Chalk Hill Middle School in Monroe, CT. Following a divorce from Robert Boyle, she married Earl G. Marsh in 1978. They moved permanently to Keene Valley, NY in the 1990's. She and Earl were very involved in the Town of Keene community, particularly the Keene Valley Congregational Church. She had many interests and passions, which included quilting, knitting, reading, classical music, birding, hiking, canoeing, meditation, dark chocolate, and her family. Above all, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, friend, and mentor, whom all will miss very much. Her second child, Katherine, sadly, passed away in 1989, however, Kay is survived by four children: Deborah Bunn, Emily Andrew, Robert “Rob” Boyle, and John “Jeb” Boyle; five grandchildren: William Marvin, Margret Befort, Melissa Estes, Dylan Boyle, and Amanda Boyle; and nine great-grandchildren: Morgan, Bryce, Adilyn, and Finley Marvin; Cameron and Cody Marvin and Shane and Charlie Befort; and Liam Estes. A memorial service will be held at the Keene Valley Congregational Church in Keene Valley, NY on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 1:30 pm, followed by a reception at the church.
