John W. Nichols, 65, of Johnson lane in Lewis, passed away Tuesday December 23, 2014 at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh. He was born January 14, 1949 in Elizabethtown,son of the late Harry and Cecelia (Hall) Nichols.
John served in the US Navy earning a Bronze Star during his tour in Vietnam. He worked as a lineman for Verizon for many years. John enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and dogs.
John is survived by his children; Maghan Nichols-MacDougal of Lewis, Ben Nichols of Lewis, Barbara Gowan of Saranac Lake, his siblings; Barbara Whittemore and her husband Robert of Lewis, Bruce Nichols and his wife Molly of Saranac Lake. He is also survived nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Claire (Murawski) who passed away in 1984.
Calling hours will be from 1:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday December 28, 2014 at Marvin-Heald Funeral Home, 7521 Court Street, Elizabethtoen. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday December 29, 2014 at Marvin-Heald funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in the Lewis cemetery in lewis.
