John H. McGaulley, 88, of Plattsburgh, NY died on November 26, 2017 at CVPH. John was born on December 27, 1928, son of John H. McGaulley, former mayor of Plattsburgh, and Evelyn Graves McGaulley. He attended high school at Mount Assumption Institute, received an AB from the College of the Holy Cross and an MBA from Columbia University. Following this, he lived in the NYC area where he served as an Auditor in the US Army and later worked as an accountant. He returned to Plattsburgh with his family in the mid 50’s where he opened an accounting practice. He worked as a CPA until his retirement in 1998. John was active in many community organizations: he was a lector; Eucharistic minister and communicant at St. John’s Parish; a member and president of St. John’s Home and School Association and School Board; a very active member, treasurer and president of the Rotary Club and St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was particularly honored to have delivered holiday meals to the homebound. He also served on other community organizations including the CVPH Board of Directors, Cliff Haven Homeowners Association, Regina Maria Spiritual Life Center Advisory Board and the Senior Citizens Council. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Horton McGaulley, his children: Marilyn and David Lampell, Poughkeepsie NY; Susan McGaulley, Raymond ME; and Kathleen O’Connor, Clifton Park NY, grandchildren: Erin and her husband Evan, Scott, Jillian, Elizabeth, Henry, Ann, Brendan, and Patrick; great grandchildren: Derek and Finn, his ward, Emmett Gleason and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter, Julie Ann McGaulley, and his sister, Margaret (Peggy) Chaskey. John will be remembered for his humor, wit and joke-telling. He enjoyed walking in Cliff Haven and visiting the Cliff Dwellers, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and especially, golf.

Calling hours will be from 4:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Heald Funeral Home, 48 Court Street, Plattsburgh A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Thursday November 30, 2017 at St. John’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be Private and at the convenience of the family.
