Jane was born at Keene Valley Hospital to her beloved parents, Erma (Bowlyer) and Howard Reed of Keene, NY. She graduated from Keene Central School in 1961, received an accounting degree from Albany Business College and proceeded to work as an accountant in a Saranac Lake accounting firm. Constantly surrounded by animals, Jane cared for horses, pigs, cows, pheasants, ducks, cats, all kinds of dogs, and even alpacas during her lifetime. Jane lived in Lake Clear, NY for many years until moving back home to Keene to live out her final years in her childhood home on East Hill.
Jane was the loving sister of Peter Reed and Donna Reed Austin of Keene, NY and Joan Reed Cahalin of Doylestown, PA. She was predeceased by her parents, and her older brothers, Robert Douglas and James A. Reed.
Jane was a silly "Ant" to four nieces and four nephews. Over many years during the childhood of these nieces and nephews, Ant Jane devoted two weeks each year to bring them to her home in Lake Clear. She was especially proud of this time spent as she became a "Great Ant" to twelve great nieces and five great nephews who continue to visit the Adirondacks and do the same activities she did with their parents. Her legacy and love is reflected in the countless fond memories and giggles she created with each one of them, and all of their continued love for the outdoors.
Jane had an incredible ability to talk to anyone and made innumerable friendships over her lifetime. Always eager to hike in the woods and play in the streams and lakes, Jane spent her life enjoying the beautiful Adirondacks and sharing that infectious laugh and love with everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. "The Hill will never be the same without her."
