JANE MARIE BUHR
January 14, 1938 – April 9, 2016
MORRISONVILLE, NY – Jane M. Buhr (78) passed away April 9, 2016 at home with family by her side after a 3 month fight against pancreatic cancer. She was born in LaPorte, Indiana, the daughter of Stephen and Edith Zygmont. She married the love of her life, Donald F. Buhr enjoying 53 years of marriage. She is survived by her three daughters, Stephanie West and her husband, John West of Huntington, NY, Sherri Buhr of Marlborough, MA and Stacy Daley and her husband, Bill Daley, of Henrietta, NY. Five grandchildren gave her great joy: Lt. Matthew West stationed at Yakota Air Base, Japan, Joseph and Gregory West of Huntington, NY, and Amber and Sarah Daley of W. Henrietta, NY, her brother and his wife, Jerry and Loni Zygmont, her sister-in-law and her husband, Carol and Ray Goslee, and her brother-in-law and his wife, Dale and Judy Buhr, six nephews and a wonderful extended family in Indiana.
As a young woman, Jane was an inspiration attending Indiana University as one of a handful of women in 1962 graduating with a degree in Accounting. In between college semesters, she worked in Chicago with a new car leasing company called Hertz, and was assigned to assist in opening their new offices in New York City. She returned to Indiana, met Donald Buhr in an accounting class, and thus began their wonderful life together. While Don was in the Air Force, the two travelled the world, raising their daughters all over the U.S. and in England. After 23 years travelling with the Air Force, they retired in Plattsburgh where Jane owned and managed three H&R Block franchise offices in the Plattsburgh area for more than 25 years. After retiring from H&R Block, she loved playing Mah Jong with all the ladies, enjoyed many hours volunteering at the Christmas Bureau and spending Sunday afternoons at the VFW with friends. With deepest gratitude, the family would like to thank the CVPH nurses and nursing assistants from the 5th floor oncology ward and the North Country Hospice nurses. Jane’s very special team of home health aides brought laughter and peace in Jane’s final days for which her family is very thankful.
