James Roderick West, 71, of Macey Lane in Plattsburgh passed away Wednesday August 1, 2018 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born Plattsburgh on May 30, 1947 son of the late Michael and Thelma (Stringer) West.
He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War 1966 to 1970. He received the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star, and the National Defense Service Medal. He worked at Diamond International here in Plattsburgh, Asarco Copper mines, and retired from Davis Monthan Air Force Base as a civilian Electrician. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 125 in Plattsburgh as Junior Vice and also a member of The American Legion 1619 in West Plattsburgh, and The Plattsburgh Moose Lodge.
He is leaving behind his sister and brother in-law Carolyn and Donald Gadway of Arizona, a nephew and his wife James and Pily Gadway, two great nephews Zachary and Jacob Gadway of Arizona. He also leaves behind a loving companion and caregiver Joan Reyell and some great friends. He is predeceased his brother Harland “Hal” West, his wife Elizabeth Rollier West and his son Michael West.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service with military honors will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday August 7, 2018 at Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. A memorial service will also be held 2:00 PM September 15, 2018 at VFW Post #125 on Boynton Ave. in Plattsburgh.
