James “Jim” Cashin

On Wednesday, September 7, 2016 James P. Cashin succumb to his battle with Alzheimer ’s disease and Dementia. Born the son of Patrick Francis Cashin and Mary Gorman Cashin of the Highbridge section of the Bronx, NY, he was one of 8 children. Jim was very proud of his Irish heritage and his siblings. A man who loved his family, his faith, and his country, Jim lived life to the fullest. He worked and loved as hard as he played.
Jim, a graduate of Bedford Park Academy in the Bronx, NY and served his country in the United States Army from 1965 – 1967 when he was honorably discharged. Jim owned and operated his own businesses for over 40 years, most notably The Halfway House and Cashin’s Cobble Hill Inn, in Elizabethtown, NY, both well-known under his proprietorship.
He is survived by his wife Marion (Badilla) Cashin, daughter Christina Cashin of Dobbs Ferry, NY, three sons Patrick Cashin of Elizabethtown, Matthew and Kristen Cashinof Plattsburgh, and Joseph and Jacki Cashin of Delmar, NY, sisters Kathleen Lyons, Johanna Angst, Mary Morgan, Patricia Herlihy, Anastasia McMenniman, and Ellen Cashin, a brother John Cashin, many nieces and nephews, and one granddaughter, Mia James Cashin, whom Jim treasured every moment with.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Heald Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, NY. Calling hours will be from 1pm – 4pm on Sunday, September 11th. A funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Church, also in Elizabethtown, on September 12th at 2pm. There will be a gathering for friends and family to follow at Cobble Hill Inn to celebrate Jim’s life and to lovingly remember his commitment to his faith, family and friends, and the community he loved and served so faithfully.
