Irene Young

Irene Evelyn Young, passed away on January 1, 2025, at the age of 95 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on March 22, 1929, in Altona, NY to Velia and Eva Lucia.

Irene along with her husband owned and operated Young's Grocery, where she became a beloved of the community. Her store was not just a place to shop; it was a gathering space where neighbors became friends, and stories were shared over the counter.

She was predeceased by her husband Donald Young; her brothers Dolphus Lucia, Roger Lucia, Donald Lucia, Leeward Lucia; her sisters Doris Goodrow and Theresa Naro; and her parents Velia and Eva Lucia.

She is survived by her children, Marc (Phyllis) Young, Stephen (Brenda) Young, Neil (Kay) Young, Karen (Michael) Leonard, Lisa (Peter) Heintz; her sister Marie LaValley; sisters-in-law Palmina Boyd and Joyce Young; her grandchildren Craig Young, Brent Young, Bryan Young, Michelle Lubberts, Erica Leonard, Shelly Bedard, Joseph Leonard, Hunter Young, Christopher Beach, and Brandon Beach; as well as several great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on January 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Church in Altona with a reception to follow at the Rainbow Hall.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Hospice of the North Country, especially Becky and Jess.
