It is with great sadness that the loving and close family of Iona Dubay announce her peaceful passing on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the amazing age of 94. Ellen Iona Hudson was born November 9th 1920, to Parents Alton Hudson and Ellen (Washbond) Hudson.
Iona was pre-deceased by her husband Charles E. Dubay and her grandson Darren Bethlehem. She is survived by her two children Ronald Dubay of Lewis, NY and Joyce Bethlehem of Elizabethtown NY and Grandchildren Cynthia Phillips of Vermont, Joanne Baldwin of Keene NY, Andrea Blades of Lewis NY and Brian Dubay of North Hudson, NY. Iona was the proud Great Grandma of 6 Great-grandchildren Olivia and Claire Phillips, Colden and Carson Blades, Josh and Samuel Baldwin
Iona’s strength and kindness affected many and she was well known in the area to many people for a variety of reasons. Her childhood was spent in Keene Valley NY, where she graduated from Keene Central in 1939. She met her Charlie at a dance and they were married in 1941 before he went off to war. At the end of wartime they moved to Lewis NY and Iona became a member of American Legion Auxillary and began teaching cooking to the local 4-H. She taught Sunday school and was an avid volunteer in the Retired Senior Volunteer Service (RSVP). Iona liked Teatime, craft fairs, fishing and going to Atlantic city with her daughter and friends. Her family and neighbors cherished her raison filled cookies, mustard pickles, and anytime spent in her presence.
Calling hours will be 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, at the Marvin- Heald Funeral Home,7521 Court Street Elizabethtown. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, at the Lewis Congregational Church, followed by reception at the parish hall.
