Gregory Mitchell

January 9, 1953 — January 19, 2025

Gregory "Shakie" Mitchell, age 72, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025. He was born on January 9, 1953 to Samuel and Aileen Mitchell in Plattsburgh, NY.

Greg retired from the Essex County Highway Department after nearly 30 years of service. He was a true craftsman who spent countless hours in his garage workshop, finding joy in the simple yet fulfilling task of working on engines and cars. When he was not keeping busy in the garage, he loved relaxing in his recliner.

Greg and his beloved wife Gael shared a love for the great outdoors. Many cherished memories were made camping at Baker's Acres in Saranac, where the couple found peace and adventure amidst nature's beauty. He had a special fondness for Las Vegas where he visited several times. The most memorable trip was when he won $1,000 and used that to help purchase his Kubota tractor.

Greg's life was marked by his dedication to his work, his passion for his hobbies, and his love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Gael; his children Megan Mitchell and Scott Mitchell; his sisters Wendy Aubin and Jane Bashaw; and his stepson Ric Low. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers Wayne Mitchell, George Mitchell, and Stacey Mitchell.

A Graveside Service will be held in the Spring at Calvary Cemetery in Willsboro.

Services were entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, PO Box 188, 7521 Court St., Elizabethtown, NY 12932.
