MORRISONVILLE – Geraldine L. Defayette, 84, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 at UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, surrounded by family.
Gerry was born in Plattsburgh, October 09, 1932, the daughter of Homer and Bessie Stone. Gerry attended St. John’s Academy in Plattsburgh. She worked for AT& T after high school and then completed her LPN nursing degree in Albany, NY. She worked at CVPH for over 30 years, first as a float to various floors and then worked in Mental Health Unit (MHU) for over 20 of those years.
Gerry married Remie Defayette, Jr in 1956 and lived in Schenectady,NY where they started their family. In 1958, the family moved to Plattsburgh and continued to grow their family of 6 children. Gerry was a wonderful cook and homemaker. After her retirement in 1997, she stayed active in her church and enjoyed feeding the birds, being with friends, playing pinochle, her cat and knitting. Gerry is survived by her six children, daughter Michelle & John Love of Poulsbo, WA, daughter Rene & Allan Oswald of Winter Springs, FL, son Timothee Defayette of Sandis Field, MA, son Michael & Janeen Defayette of Plattsburgh, daughter Lisa Defayette of Morrisonville, daughter Denice & Scott Marshall of Cadyville, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Gerry was predeceased by her husband, Remie Defayette, Jr. and her parents, Homer and Bessie Stone.
The family would like to thank the Progressive Care floor at UVM Health Center in Plattsburgh for their compassion and support during Gerry’s final days.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, February 10th, at Heald Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, NY. A celebration of her life will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 11th at St. Alexander’s Catholic Church in Morrisonville, NY.
