Gail Robin (Whitaker) Anderson, 69, of Lewis, NY passed away on February 19, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. Gail was born on June 27, 1953 to Robinson Odell and Theresa Katherine (Rheaume) Whitaker.
After graduating from Moriah Central School in 1971, Gail attended SUNY Geneseo until she began working at Moses Ludington Hospital as a Nurse's Aide and Activities Aide. This turned into her career at Horace Nye Nursing Home as Activities Director where she later retired from in 2011. Prominent in the community, Gail was most known for her work with the Residents, their families and her co-workers. She educated new staff with regard to end-of-life procedures, a topic she taught with respect and dignity, yet a sad reality in her profession.
She married Christopher Page Anderson on July 6, 1976. Together they had three children. Terra Jeanne, Christopher Robinson and Valerie Jade Anderson.
She was predeceased by her parents, Robinson and Terry Whitaker, her brother, Larry Whitaker and the late Chris Anderson. She is survived by her children, Terra Thompson (Shawn Bronson), Chris Anderson and Valerie Kipp. Her grandbabies, Dominic, Sadie and Nikalus Thompson, Hannah, Christopher and Isabella Anderson and Roland Kipp. Along with several extended grandbabies, her sister, Linda Plumadore and several nieces and nephews.
She was so happy to be able to connect with friends and family through Facebook and online gaming. She became a Mema in 2000 and has been known as this title ever since among her family, grandchildren as well as friends of family and grandchildren. Seen often on the sidelines, she was one of Moriah Vikings, ELCS Lions and BVCS Griffins biggest fans. From Youth sports through Modified and Varsity sports, Mema was there cheering on her grandchildren and always will continue to be.
Our mother was notorious for her giving nature and willingness to help others. She sponsored a child in Nicaragua through the North Country Mission of Hope and supported Val to attend 5 of her own missions to Nicaragua. She enjoyed donating to organizations dear to her from school fundraisers to The Wounded Warrior project. She would want her legacy of generosity to be remembered.
A Memorial Service is planned for March 3, 2023 at Heald Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Calling hours will be 2:00-4:00 pm with a service at 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the family GoFundMe page or ncmissionofhope.org may be made.
