Francis Lloyd Staats III of Westport, NY was called home to the Lord on March 14, 2015. He was 55.
He grew up in Belle Mead, NJ, the fourth of 6 children of Francis Lloyd Staats Jr. and June Derrington Staats, born on August 13, 1959.
Lloyd attended the Colorado School of Trades to be a gun-smith and then received a degree in natural resource management from Rutgers University.
He married Peggy Purdue in 1993 and they had 8 children: Charlotte, F. Lloyd IV, Samson, Jeannette, Abram, George, Nelson, and Sylvia. He is survived by his parents, wife, children and his brothers and sisters: Sandy, Suzy, Sharon, Martin, and John.
Lloyd loved God, his family, his friends, the woods and his country. His life revolved around those things. He was a devoted, loving husband and father, a loyal and helpful friend to many, a thoughtful, hard working forester, and a faithful Christian. He was a very active member of the Champlain Valley Fencing Club, the Essex Community Church and a supporter of the Plattsburgh Police Pipes and Drums.
As a father, he worked with Peggy to try to raise their children to be honest, active, inquisitive and strong. As a forester, his goal was to manage forests so they could be as healthy and productive as possible. He would do just about anything to help a friend in need. His faith in God never faltered, even during his battle with cancer. For his country, he hoped for the return of a time when liberties are granted rather than revoked under the guise of political correctness.
Lloyd, beloved husband, devoted friend, “the fun master” to his children, wonderful son and brother, will forever be loved and missed.
A memorial service will be held at Essex Community Church, Essex, NY on April 11th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, PO Box 26174, New York NY, 10087-6174 or the Staats Family Fund at Essex, Community Church, PO Box 125, Essex, NY 12936
