Francis M. MacDougal, 67 died Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at CVPH Hospital in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was born February 22, 1955 in Plattsburgh, the son of Harold Q. and Margaret (Shambo) MacDougal. He graduated from Willsboro Central School. Francis retired in December 2020 from Vassar College where he worked for 32 years. Most of those years were in the General Supply & Receiving Department. Because of health problems, he has resided at Champlain Valley Senior Community in Willsboro for the past year and a half.
Francis was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He loved animals and birds and had a way of attracting them with his quiet, gentle way. He had several feral cats on the Vassar Campus which he fed and cared for. He had a way with people as well, and made lifelong friends wherever he was. He was a kind, caring person and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Francis is survived by one sister, Cary MacDougal Friday; four brothers, Kevin, Tim, Fred and Harold MacDougal, two uncles, Robert and Donald Shambo; one aunt, Joan MacDougal, his best friend, Mark LaPine, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Mike MacDougal and a niece, Ashley MacDougal.
The family wishes to thank Jess Bridge and all the staff and workers at Champlain Valley Senior Community for their wonderful care and concern.
At Francis' request there will be no public services, however a public celebration of his life will be held next year, the time and place to be announced. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory.
