Ella Doyle Coonrod

Ella D. Coonrod, 89, of Willsboro, passed away peacefully with family beside her on Monday, May 24, 2021. Ella was born on September 28, 1931 in Willsboro, N.Y., the daughter of the late Rolland and Ethel Doyle. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Coonrod as well as, her three brothers Rolland Jr, Walter, and Earl, and sister Gloria.

Ella is survived by her two children, Cheryl and husband Larry Morgan of Concord, New Hampshire, and Keith and wife Joan of Willsboro, NY, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, her sister Dianne and husband Thomas Brooks of Glens Falls, N.Y., sisters-in-law Nancy Doyle of Elizabethtown, N.Y. and Virgin Doyle of Virginia.

Ella graduated from Willsboro Central School in 1949 and went on to support the WCS alumni association throughout her many years. She came from a musical family having played violin growing up, her grandfather a singer, father a drummer, mother a singer, and sister Dianne remains the director of the Plattsburgh Barbershoppers.

Ella worked, while in High School at Baldwin’s Soda Fountain located inWillsboro where she first met Ken after his return from the Navy during WW II. On July 16, 1949, they were married. They worked together operating the family business which in later years was known to many as the Willsboro Furniture & Appliance Store. While busy raising their children, they also purchased and operated the Willsboro Lanes Bowling Alley adjacent to their store. Ella’s family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her. She enjoyed traveling and visiting with them. She loved challenges and was never afraid to try something new. She was successful throughout her life across many endeavors and often imparted this knowledge to her children and many in our community. Ella was a member and Eucharistic minister at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Willsboro.

On any day you could find her cooking favorite meals, planting flowers, filling the bird feeders or mowing the lawn. She didn’t like pulling weeds! Later in life Ella and Ken became Wagon Masters for Tracks to Adventure out of El Paso, Texas, leading caravans throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. Ella was the Willsboro Court Clerk for many years and even found time to volunteer at the Willsboro Town Hall after she retired. Ella was famous for hosting gatherings and serving her famous Michigans, potato salad, German Chocolate cupcakes. Ella will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched.

In her final days, the comfort and attention Ella received from the High Peaks Hospice were so appreciated by her as well as Cheryl, Keith and family.

Because of COVID-19, there will not be any calling hours or church service. Internment service will take place at the Calvary Cemetery on the Lake Shore Rd in Willsboro, NY on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Immediately following will be an outside gathering at the homestead located at 522 Point Rd, Willsboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Ella (Doyle) Coonrod to the High Peaks Hospice, 12 Tom Phelps Rd., Mineville, NY 12956 and/or Elmore SPCA Inc., 556 Telegraph Rd, Peru, NY 12972.
