Elbert “Pete” A. Howards, 87, formerly of Twin Valley RD, Westport was taken home to rest in God’s loving arms on August 1, 2015. He was born December 6, 1927 the son of Elbert and Julia (Swan) Howard.
Pete served his country as a soldier in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War; He was awarded the United National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service medal with two bronze stars. He was very proud to be a veteran. He married Aletha Stevens and together they raised their son Brian. Pete retired from Allen-Rogers Corporation Hale Brook Division. Peter was a member of the volunteer fire departments in Westport, Wadhams, and Whallonsburgh where he was the Captain of the Fire Police. He was a true outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Pete was always willing to help others and enjoyed going to Camp Good News with Forrest to get it ready for the season.
He is survived by his son Brian and his wife Lori, eight grandchildren; Brianne, Schuyler, Sarah, Joseph, Nathan, Jonathan, Garrett, and Dylan; two great-grandchildren Blake and Corbin; two sisters Bernice Urban and Betty Christian; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Aletha, four sisters; Evelyn, Louise, Beryl, and Florence.
A memorial service will be held at 11A.M. on Friday August 7, at the Westport Bible Church, Youngs Road, Westport, NY.
Donations may be made in Pete’s memory to the Westport Bible Church or your local fire department.
