Edith Mitchell

July 5, 1959 — January 27, 2025

Edith Mitchell, 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 27, 2025, in Saranac Lake, NY after a short, but valiant battle with cancer. Born in Keene Valley, NY, on July 5, 1959, Edith lived a life rich in love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Edith was the devoted spouse of John "Bub" Mitchell, with whom she shared a deep and enduring bond that weathered life's many seasons. Together, they built a family that became the cornerstone of her life, the light of her heart.

She was preceded in death by her stepson Luke Mitchell, her brother Leamon A. Smith, and her parents Earl and Evelyn Smith.

Along with her husband John, she is survived by her loving children: Willis (Charlene) Tromblee, Peter Tromblee, Jr., Tiffani Tromblee (Alex Benway) and step-son Jason (Becky) Hance; she also leaves behind her brother Leo (Carolyn) Smith; and her cherished grandchildren, Riley, Aiden, Allison, Erin, Rease, Avery, Arabella, Emmy, who brought immense joy to her life.

Throughout her career, Edith served the Essex County Department of Social Services where she was known not only as a diligent clerk but as a compassionate advocate for those in need.

Edith found joy in life's simple pleasures; she loved to dance, each movement a testament to her vibrant spirit, and her hands were never idle-always creating beautiful, crocheted treasures for those she loved. Her deep love for family and her warm, radiant smile touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Services will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements were entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, PO Box 188, 7521 Court St., Elizabethtown, NY 12932.
