Dorothy M. Demar

May 14, 1932 — September 2, 2021

Dorothy arrived in this world on May 14, 1932, in Port Henry, New York, the fifth child of ten created by James and Cora Connors. She lost her father at a young age.

She and her younger siblings were separated from their mother and experienced firsthand the challenges of New York’s foster care system during the years following the Great Depression. Dorothy began working odd jobs as a teen and gained a reputation as a pitcher in the local softball games. She met her husband, Raymond, in Essex and devoted most of her life to raising and nurturing their family of eight in the same small community where she had grown up. She had always opened her home to the neighborhood children and is credited with the creation of many great memories. As her nest emptied, she was employed by Tambrands in Willsboro, New York, where she was known for her hard work and speed on the assembly lines. She enjoyed an occasional outing to play Bingo and was always up for a movie or board game with her grandchildren. She especially looked forward to gatherings with her sisters and their poker games. Oh, the fun they had! She was a long-time resident of Essex, New York.

Dorothy leaves four daughters: Donna Stearns (Dennis) (Prescott, Arizona), Barbara Fountain (Aurora, Colorado), Joyce Carson (Cape Coral, Florida ), Nancy Ahrent (Michael) (Willsboro, New York) and one son, Raymond (Mineville, New York). She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond and three sons: David, George and Michael. She was grandmother to 12 and great-grandmother to 15. Her birth family was composed of four brothers: Arthur, John (Jack), James (Jim) and Gerald (Jerry) and five sisters: Regina, Evelyn, Veronica (Vera), Catherine and Beverly
