David Dupras, Sr.

February 15, 1935 — March 10, 2024

David Edward Dupras Sr., 89, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died at Meadowbrook Healthcare on March 10, 2024.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 15, 1935, to John H. Dupras Jr. and Lucille L. (Lefevre) Dupras. Known as "Chick" to his friends for his slender build and generous nose, David grew up living in Plattsburgh, Lyon Mountain, N.Y., Standish, N.Y., and Clayburg, N.Y., and graduated high school from Sallaz Academy in Redford, N.Y.

David married Juanita M. Vasquez in 1956, and they settled in Saranac, N.Y., where he lived most of his life. Together they had seven children: David Jr., Valerie, Alicia, Christopher, Stuart, Matthew, and Michael. Juanita preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 1976.

The following year, David met the woman who would become the love of his life, Marietta L. (Latown) DuBrey, and they married on June 4, 1978. Marietta brought with her three daughters to add to David's family: Colette, Nanette, and Danielle.

In his early life, David worked as a painter and drywall/finishing contractor, first on projects at Plattsburgh Air Force Base and area missile sites, and later for local builders and independently. He also owned and operated two area businesses: Dupras' Liquor Store in Saranac and Bob's Music Supply in Plattsburgh. His lifelong passion was collecting rifles and shotguns, especially unique and antique guns, and he was an armchair expert on hunting firearms. He hunted and fished from the family camp in Union Falls, N.Y., enjoyed competitive trap shooting, and was an active member of the Plattsburgh Rod & Gun Club and lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

David was also preceded in death by his second wife, Marietta, on Dec. 26, 2007; three brothers: John H. "Jack" Dupras III (2015), Philip L. Dupras (2017), and William J. "Bill" Dupras (2019); and his infant son Matthew M. Dupras (1963).

He is survived by nine children: David E. Dupras Jr., of Syracuse, N.Y.; Valerie E. (Dupras) Parker, of Plattsburgh; Alicia M. (Dupras) Chase, of Saranac, and her husband, Wayne Jr.; Christopher L. Dupras, of Manlius, N.Y., and his wife, Suzanne; Stuart J. Dupras, of Englewood, Ohio, and his wife, Rebecca; Colette M. (DuBrey) Jurnak, of Jeffersonville, Vt., and her husband, Michael; Nanette K. (DuBrey) Niemann, of Peru, N.Y., and her husband, Kelly; Michael C. Dupras, of Manlius; and Danielle M. DuBrey, of Morrisonville, N.Y.; two brothers: Michael L.
