Dan passed away on March 6, having led a varied life that despite hardships along the way, he bore it with great equanimity.
He was born on July 15, 1939, the son of Ross and Gladys (née de Gouffe) Riley and is predeceased by them and his siblings, Agnes and Chris. He is survived by his brother Bill (Ottawa, Canada) and his niece Taryn and nephews Taylor, Trevor, Trenton, Patrick and James.
He had lived in various parts of the United States but spent his youth and many other times in his life in the hamlet of Newton Falls, New York. He was a Marine veteran. He loved the outdoors (except the harsh winters which is why he loved living in Phoenix) and all sports. He was an avid Montreal Canadian and Dodgers fan. But most of all, he loved his books and all matter of reading which he devoured and remembered with pleasure making him a wizard at Jeopardy. A gruff exterior and “one of few words” concealed a sharp intellect and a good, kind and non-judgmental person who lived his life quietly. Our thanks to Meadowbrook Nursing Home and Emory House for the care they gave Dan over the last nine years. May God bless you, Dan, as you rest in peace. As he wished, arrangements are private.
