Mr. Clement Edward LaPoint Jr., 86, of Plattsburgh, New York, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, September 8th, 2014 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, New York. He was born in Plattsburgh on July 8th, 1928, the son of Clement Sr. and Mary (Mayette) LaPoint.
Clem enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1948 and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and became an electrician with the Local 781 (later Local 910) in 1964. Clem was an avid golfer, a member of North Country Golf Club for over a decade and scored a hole in one on hole number one of the Willsboro Golf Club on July 4th, 1981. While Clem enjoyed golf and the outdoors, his greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved without measure.
Clem is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth A. LaPoint, whom he married on August 13th, 1955 at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh, New York. He is also survived by three sons and two daughter-in-laws; Clement LaPoint III of Plattsburgh, Jules and Jacquelyn LaPoint of Morrisonville, and Matt and Michele LaPoint of Schuyler Falls, one daughter; JoAnne LaChance of Plantation, Florida, one brother; Donald LaPoint, one sister; Mary LaPoint, 8 grandchildren; Christina LaChance, Michael LaChance, Christopher LaChance, Alexander LaPoint, Ashley LaPoint, Timothy LaPoint, Danial LaPoint, Erin LaPoint, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded by a brother, Leon LaPoint.
