Clayton A. Defayette. 78, of Standish Road in Standish, passed away Sunday April 7, 2013 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Standish on October 10, 1934 son of the late Medas and Loretta (Lashway) Defayette. Clayton attended Plattsburgh State College before entering the US Marine Corps. Clayton worked as a Driller for Republic Steel, construction building Plattsburgh Air Force Base, Kenwood moving and storage, Georgia Pacific Paper Mill, and then worked for New York State Department of Corrections for 39 ½ years retiring as a Lieutenant. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. Clayton was a pioneering member of the Local Union at Clinton Correctional Facility for 13 years and the New York State Union President for 6 years. He treasured the men that he worked with. Clayton enjoyed gardening, working on his wood pile, caring for his lawn and especially cooking breakfasts for his grandchildren. Clayton is survived by his wife the former Anne Farrell of Standish whom he married November 20, 1954 in Lyon Mountain, his children; Patrick and Patricia Defayette of Brandywine, MD., Andrew Defayette of Knoxville, TN., Brian and Mary Defayette of Knoxsville, TN., Andrea Defayette of Plattsburgh, one brother; Robert and Peggy Defayette of Clayburg, two sisters; Marion King of Port Richie, FL., Phyllis Farrell of Dannemora, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Michael, one brother Phillip and a sister Eleanor. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial mass will be held at St. Bernard’s Church in Lyon Mountain at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heald Funeral Home, 48 Court Street, Plattsburgh.
