Carolyn Gowdy Virtuoso passed away at home on January 13th after a brief illness. Carolyn was born on February 23, 1937 in Canton , New York to George and Grace Gowdy. She attended Cornell University and graduated with a degree in home economics in 1959 and then returned to Cornell to pursue a Master’s Degree in 1994. She taught home economics at the high school level and then worked for the state of New York’s Cooperative Extension program.
Later on life Carolyn joined the Latter Day Saints church. After her retirement from Cooperative Extension, she served as a missionary for the church at the church office building in Salt Lake City, Utah. When she moved to Massachusetts, she joined the North Brookfield branch of the LDS church. Her faith and her participation in church were a cornerstone of her life and brought much joy to herself and those around her.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Bartley-MacDonald, and her son-in-law Todd MacDonald, her brother George Gowdy, Jr. , her niece Carolyn George, nephew Scott Gowdy and her great nephews . Carolyn was a loving and supportive grandmother to Miranda Bartley, Brianna, Amelia and Timothy MacDonald.
A memorial service is planned for the summer. The date has yet to be determined.
