Beverly Purdy Gregory Greenwood, 89, of Keene, NY, passed away on April 1st, 2023 with her loving family by her side under the care of High Peaks Hospice.
Bev was born on October 2nd, 1933 to Monty and Lorraine Purdy in Greece, NY. She moved to the mountains of Keene in 1946, and still could recount her first trip through the cascade pass, as a harrowing experience.
Bev graduated from Keene Central School in 1951, from there she went to beautician school in Rochester, NY. She returned to Keene after completing school to help run the family establishment Monty’s Elm Tree Inn. Which was owned and operated by her family from 1946-2004.
In 1953, Beverly Purdy married Louis Gregory and went on to have four children, Sheila, Kevin, Kerry, and (Stacey who passed in infancy). Beverly later married Paul Greenwood in 1982.
Bev was also very involved in the community for all of her life. She was a member of St.Brendan's Catholic Church in Keene, NY. A member of the Red Hat Society, and a volunteer for the annual Daffodil Drive for the American Cancer Society. She also transported residents for the Keene Valley Neighborhood House and enjoyed yard saleing, making fudge and crafting.
Beverly was predeceased by her daughter Stacey Gregory, second husband Paul Greenwood, her brother’s Ronald and Robert Purdy and nephew Robert Purdy Jr. She is survived by her daughter Sheila (Bill) Ferebee, son’s Kevin (Theresa) Gregory, and Kerry (Susan) Gregory. Step daughter Dorthy (Tom) Stull. Her grandchildren Ryan (Stacey) Ferebee, Landyn (Steve) Hutchinson, John Ferebee, Jennifer (Ned) Whitney, Cori-Anne (Josh) Favro. Eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Brendan’s Church in late spring, the date is still to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to High Peaks Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
