Westport—Beverley Ann Burlow McIntyre, 85, of Westport, New York died after a short illness at Elizabethtown Community Hospital, Elizabethtown, New York on April 28, 2015. She was born on October 1, 1929 in Lewis, New York to Marguerite and Henry Burlow. She was valedictorian of her graduating class from Elizabethtown School in 1946. Following high school, she attended and graduated from American International College in Springfield, MA in 1950 with a degree in secondary education. Her first teaching position was in Plainfield, Vermont for one year, after which she accepted a high school business teaching position in Moriah, New York at the Sherman Collegiate Institute. In 1955, she accepted the high school business teaching position at Westport Central School and taught there until her retirement in 1984. She was a beloved and well-respected teacher by many. In addition, together with her husband, Donald McIntyre, and their partners, they owned and operated Westport Marina for over 25 years. In her retirement, Mrs. McIntyre became a licensed Real Estate Broker and owned and operated Adirondack Lake Realty until her death.
Mrs. McIntyre was a leader in the community and her church. She was a member of the Army Air Force Aircraft Warning Service Reserve in 1943 and 1944. She served as Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Westport Library Association Board for several years; member of the Board of Directors of the Arts Council; member of the Alpha Chi—National Honorary Society; member of the Choir, Pastoral Relations Committee, and Federated Church Women at the Westport Federated Church; Past President of Delta Kappa Gamma; Past District Deputy Grand Matron of the Clinton/Essex District of Eastern Star; Board Member for Essex County Housing Assistance Program; Past President of Republican Women of Essex County; member of the Westport Chamber of Commerce; and many other community-centered initiatives. She supported fully her husband, Donald McIntyre, in his public service positions as Mayor and Supervisor of the Village and Town of Westport.
Beyond Mrs. McIntyre’s many professional and civic accomplishments, her greatest joy was being the matriarch of her family, all of whom loved her dearly and deeply. Donald and Beverley McIntyre loved their family, their friends, and their community. Anyone who knew Beverley understood her giving, caring, and loving nature.
Mrs. McIntyre married Donald Lee McIntyre of Crown Point, New York on June 16, 1951. Her beloved husband, “Mac,” predeceased her in 2009. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands: Donna and Dr. Allan Beal of Westport, New York; Melanie and Ali Zarabi-Aazam of Brooklyn, New York; Marcy and U.S. Coast Guard Retired Chief Warrant Officer Charles Phippen of Ellsworth, Maine; and her cousin Karen Brown and her husband, George Sweat of Lewis, New York. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Beal and his wife, Courtney; Alison Beal Honovic and her husband Richard; Hilary Zarabi-Aazam; Tiffany Zarabi-Aazam; Alec Phippen and his wife, U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Hannah Phippen; and Stephanie Phippen; and three great grandchildren: Grace Elizabeth Beal; Kyle Humphrey; and Juliette Brooklynn Honovic.
Calling hours will be Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Marvin-Heald Funeral Home, 7521 Court Street, Elizabethtown, NY. A funeral service will be celebrated Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Westport Federated Church, Main Street, Westport, NY.
