James R. McDonough

Jim McDonough joined his wife Patsy, his son David and his daughters Doreen and Stacie in heaven on August 17, 2016. He was born July 10, 1930 in Keene Valley to the late John and Edith (Colgan) McDonough.
Jim was blessed with a large family. He is survived by his sons Darrin and wife Lisa of Ticonderoga, Darryl and wife Patricia of Saranac Lake, his daughter-in-law Paula of Keene Valley, his daughters Ellen of Melbourne, Florida, Valarie of Keene Valley, Erin of Lake Placid, Sheila and husband Paul of Queensbury and Sherry McDonough of Saranac Lake.
Jim’s pride and joy were his grandchildren of plenty; Tiffani, Taetum, Ewen, Michelle, Stephanie, Ashlee, Sherri, Jake, Jesse, Gabe, Trevor, Taylor, Hannah, Nicki, Megan, Darian, Jessica, Kayleena, Austin, Marisa, Talia, Nicholas, Thomas, Jacob, Riley, Jack & Brady. Jim was also blessed with 23 great-grandchildren.
Jim was predeceased by his only sister, Janet McDonough.
He was also survived by his brother-in-law Michael Jaques and wife PJ, his brother-in-law George Buysse, his niece Lisa Nye and nephews Brad Jaques, Steven, Scott and Michael Buysse.
Jim wore many hats during his lifetime. He was a very talented carpenter and took care of many homes and camps in the area. Jim was actively involved with local politics and the community. He served as Councilman for the Town of Keene for over thirty years as well as a Town assessor for many years. He served his county as an Air Force Staff Sargent during the Korean War, stationed in Africa, and later served in the U.S. Army Reserve retiring as a Sargent First Class. During their 56 years of marriage, Jim and the love of his life Patsy were faithfully involved with St. Brendan’s church.
An avid sports fan, Jim enjoyed following the NY Giants, Rangers and Yankees and the Keene Central Beavers.
Jim will be remembered for his dry humor, tough exterior and warm, kind heart.
A memorial service for Jim will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at St. Brendan’s Church in Keene. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made in his name to American Legion Post 1312 or St. Brendan’s Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Heald Funeral Home, 7521 Court Street, Elizabethtown.
